Academic performance and college access for rural, low-income, and first-generation students is a national concern. This session discusses how one rural community college united to address the gaps that exist in educational achievement among underserved and underrepresented students by hosting a successful ACT Boot Camp. The 3-day intensive boot camp, which featured workshops on improving test performance, courses taught by professors and high school teachers, timed practice tests, individualized coaching, and college advising, witnessed a significant increase in student’s scores by 1.5 points (P=.022). Join us as we discuss challenges our students face in accessing college, brainstorm ways to address academic achievement gaps, and share best practices.
